Information Group

The National Water Safety Forum is endeavoring to bring together in one place, information about incidents, casualties and fatalities in water. The Forum is also working towards improving the quality of information and data available enabling it, for the first time, to develop strategies and policies based on statistics and research.

The information group has been tasked with the role of enabling the forum to meet these goals. To this end, the keys aims, objectives and outputs of the group are outlined below:

Aims:

  • To bring together in one place, information and research about incidents, casualties and fatalities in, on or by the water.
  • To improve the quality of information and data available enabling the forum, UK government and those authorities and organisations with responsibility for water safety to develop strategies and policies based on statistics, analysis and research

 

Objectives:

  • To encourage the gathering, monitoring and evaluation of fatalities or incident data and relevant research
  • To assess the need for intervention
  • To assess the need for better information and data

 

Outputs:

  • Improvements to statistics and levels of analysis
  • Regular reporting to the coordinating committee
  • A data led approach to incident prevention

 

The information group has representatives from each of the other advisory groups, along with academics other experts from organisations with specialist interest in water safety. The full list of current group contributors can accessed on the members page. Correspondence members are welcome to submit to the group, through the secretariat of the group. Minutes and current work items will be posted regularly onto this site. The position table indicates which projects the group is working on currently.
