Water Safety at Home Image: Garden pondPeople drowning at home only represent a small percentage of the total drowning deaths each year, with only about 10% of deaths by drowning occurring in the home environment. Deaths occur in the bath, in garden ponds, in other water-filled containers in the garden and in paddling and swimming pools. Generally it is young children and older adults that are most at risk of drowning at home. However with increased awareness of the dangers in the home environment that water presents, many of these deaths are preventable. Follow the advice in these pages to minimise the risk to you and your family whilst at home.
