Water Sports Safety : The Advisory Group

At least 3 million people a year take part in watersports activities . The Watersports Advisory group has been established from industry professionals with the secretariat being provided by The Central Council for Physical Recreation (CCPR).

The CCPR is an umbrella body for 273 national governing and representative bodies for sport and recreation. It represents and promotes the interests of the voluntary sector of sport and recreation.The Water Recreation Division of the CCPR encompasses the governing bodies for water-based sport and recreation.  A safety working group has been established from the Water Recreation Division Committee which will serve as the Water Sports Advisory Group to the National Forum.  

The Water Sports Advisory Groups key objectives are:

  • To review the safety issues concerning watersports and make recommendations where necessary while recognising the objectives of the Governing Bodies to increase participation.
  • To monitor proposed legislation and regulations which might impact on watersports and give recommendations where necessary.
  • To act as a consultative body for all aspects of watersports safety.
  • To share information on best practice for generic issues.
  • To give advice to bodies such as the HSE on best practice in Watersports.
